A lead contested across seven laps ended with Adam Celárek 0.095 seconds ahead of Jaroslav Cerny. The Holden driver also left the third Championship round at the head of the table.

A lead that would not stay settled

Adam Celárek's victory at the Nürburgring was built around a lead he repeatedly had to reclaim. The Holden VL Commodore driver passed Marc Orós for second in the Yokohama-S section on the opening lap, then challenged Ayrton Titos for first on lap two. Celárek went ahead, Titos responded, and Celárek briefly regained the lead before another counterattack put Titos back in front in the Dunlop Kurve section. Later in the lap, near Antoniusbuche, Celárek passed again and completed the lap as the leader. Orós subsequently joined the fight in his Mercedes-Benz, taking first on lap four. Celárek answered in Kesselchen, Orós regained the advantage near Steilstrecke, and Celárek was back ahead before the lap ended. Their exchanges continued on lap five: Orós moved into first in Hatzenbach before Celárek reclaimed the position in Kesselchen. Celárek led at the end of six of the seven laps, but that record conceals how often his position had been challenged.

Cerny comes through

While Orós fought for the lead, Jaroslav Cerny was challenging him for second. Cerny's Nissan Skyline GT-R moved ahead in the Advan Bogen section on lap five, only for Orós to respond almost immediately. Cerny finally secured second with another pass in Kesselchen on lap six, setting up a close finish with Celárek. At the chequered flag, the Holden crossed the line just 0.095 seconds ahead of the Nissan. Orós finished third, another 2.032 seconds behind Cerny, leaving the leading three separated by only 2.127 seconds after seven laps. Titos, a central figure in the early battle for first, finished sixth.

A contest further back

FMG and Pascal Reihe provided another sustained contest through the middle of the race. FMG was ahead at the end of lap four, Reihe had reversed their order by the end of lap five, and FMG was back in front after lap six. For several laps they raced within a closely matched group, although their final positions were much further apart. FMG brought his Nissan home 12th after starting 23rd, gaining eleven places from his grid position. Reihe finished 26th. His late race included off-track moments with losses of speed on laps six and seven, and his final lap took 10:19.289, compared with a best lap of 9:08.387.

The Championship turns

Celárek's first victory in this Championship also moved him to the top of the standings. He had arrived fifth, with Ayrton Titos and Florian Masse sharing the lead. He left the Nürburgring on 74 points, three ahead of Orós. Cerny's second place put him fifth in the standings on 65 points. With three of the scheduled six rounds complete, Celárek now leads a Championship in which the leading five are separated by just nine points. His winning margin on Sunday was considerably smaller: 0.095 seconds after seven laps of racing.

On a course where the named sections of a single lap marked several distinct contests, the classification concealed much of the movement that produced it. Celárek's advantage was not that he was left alone, but that he was still in front when there were no laps left.
